Layers on Layers of Breakfast Heaven
What do most casseroles have in common? LAYERS! *in Shrek voice* Casseroles are like onions. Casseroles have layers. Onions have layers… You get it? They both have layers.
The layers in this casserole meld together as it bakes into a wonderful breakfast.
Layer #1: Start by layering a quartered biscuits on the bottom of a greased 9″ x 13″ casserole pan. Bake these for 5-7 minutes, until they start puffing up.
Layer #2: Breakfast sausage. Brown your breakfast sausage before adding it to the casserole – you can do this while your biscuits are baking.
Layer #3: Shredded cheddar cheese.
Layer #4: Cheese. Sprinkle with cheese – cheddar or colby jack, or a combo of the two! If you’re up for grating your own cheese, it makes all the difference! I have this attachment for my KitchenAid and it’s perfect when it comes to shredding large amounts of cheese. Freshly shredded cheese just melts and incorporates so much better than bagged shredded cheese. * jumps off soapbox

Layer #4: Graaavy. I used Pioneer brand Sausage Gravy because the lady on TikTok recommended it. I used 2 packages, because this is the best part of the whole casserole. It’ll make about 4 cups of gravy. I reserved 1 cup for drizzling on before serving and put the rest on the top of the casserole. Sprinkle with a bit of salt and pepper the pop this baby in the oven!
Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.
Serve with a remaining gravy drizzled on the top and enjoy!
