Noomie Noom Noom… It’s kind of like om-nom-nom deliciousness but backwards and in a diet friendly kind of way.
I started Noom about two months ago, right after the new year, I know… how typical *oh well shrug* Not knowing much about the program going in, and being sick of the on-again-off-again low carb diet we’d been trying, my expectations were low.
I’ve seen their commercials selling the ‘psychology’ of weightloss, and it sounds weird, but it’s dead accurate. I haven’t felt like I’ve been on a diet. Who can’t get on board with a diet that doesn’t feel like a diet?!

So far, I’ve lost 12 lbs. For comparison – that’s a more than a gallon of paint weighs… and it hasn’t been hard! Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had my frustrations (even in the short time I’ve been doing it), but I seriously cannot praise this program enough.
Here’s the rundown of what it entails.
- daily articles to read – about 10 minutes (I like to do this first thing in the morning #done #earlyaccomplishments)
- these things they call #psychtips – basically they’re very obvious things if you were to think about it, but we don’t really think that way
- meal tracking – each food you add is coded green, yellow or red… and no foods are ‘bad’
- you get a coach – your very own coach to answer your questions, and in my case, challenge me… I do appreciate the pushes Danielle!
- a support group – to be honest, I’m not a very active participant in the group discussions, but I still enjoy reading and snagging some inspiration from the group’s comments
I’ve learned many little tips and tricks to help cut cravings, be more active and eat better. One of Noom’s most basic concepts is caloric density – we get fuller on lower density foods. For example, you’ll get a lot fuller on 300 calories of grapes that you will 300 calories of raisins.
Another of my favorite hacks is the concept of temptation bundling – taking something you should be doing with something you want to be doing. I found a Netflix show (You) I was interested in and I only watch it while I’m on the treadmill. More into podcasts or audiobooks? That works too!
Keeping in mind this is app based and has a monthly cost, so be sure you’re ready to commit to your weight loss or wellness journey before diving in. My next goal is the 15 lb mark – for those of you fur mamas, that’s equivalent to a bag of dog food. Can you imagine not carrying one of those around all the time?!
Update: 15 lbs. lost! Next goal: 20 lbs. What’s really exciting about this one is the bottle of wine I’ll be rewarding myself with! Austin Hope Cabernet Sauvignon is one of my all time favorite wines. I splurged and bought 3 bottles, one for each of my 10 lb. milestones. #treatyoself
